Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) believes that in the normally healthy organism, there is a continuous circulation of energy or life-force called "Qi". Qi flows through channels in the body called "meridians" and can be accessed by using acupuncture points. If the flow of Qi fails to circulate illness can manifest due to the disruption of the normal flow of energy in the body. Acupuncture re-directs and normalises the flow of energy by using very fine needles applied to specific points, chosen after a careful diagnosis of the body by a practitioner.
